I have been watching the latest installment of the world's greatest sports spectacle with great interest, and although I was disappointed by the exit of my country's team, the US National Team, I was greatly pleased by the advancement of my birth country team, Germany. I dreaded the prospect of them facing Brazil in the semi-final round. However, in watching the game between Columbia and Brazil, I have to express my great concern and disappointment in how that game was refereed, in that so many egregious fouls were allowed to be perpetrated and left  lightly punished.  I understand that no one would want to hand out too many yellow and potential red cards, which would seriously impact a team's capability in the next round. Yet, how does Brazil stand when they lose two important athletes due to lack of discipline on the field? If there had been firmer control at the very beginning, perhaps Silva would be leading his team into the next game. Certainly, Neymar would have benefitted by disciplinary measures which would have mitigated the physicality of this particular game, physicality nominally controlled which led to a vertebrae fracture inflicted upon this phenom. I would have liked to see him play against the German defense.
As it stands, I do want to see Germany- advance into the final game, but I would have liked to see them earn it against the full capabilities of the Brazilian team. I just hope that this upcoming game will be conducted in a more sportsman-like manner, and refereed accordingly.
I do make note of the fact that there was an outpouring of sportsmanship and compassion between several of the athletes on the Columbian and Brazilian teams after the game. That was a pleasure to see, after the intense battles these men conducted upon the field of play.

i'm a woman and do not understand much of this game called soccer. but patriotic as i am i watch every match of my german team :giggle:

the world championship has nothing to do with soccer. they attack the best of us like schweinsteiger and müller and hope that they are injured and can't play on. in my small opinion this is not the way to win a game. if you're not good enough - you're out. that's it. i was disappointed of the usa team, 'cause i think a german coach hasn't taught them to play this way.

so yesterday we won against france and our best defense hummels  made it :happybounce:
